ART IS...
creativity, problem solving, visual literacy, collaboration, personal expression, sharing ideas, innovative thinking

The Value of Creative Practice
I believe that everyone can be creative and engaging in creative practice can provide countless positive outcomes. I strive to inspire every student to explore ideas and passions through artistic practice. Art allows students to develop skills of problem solving, collaboration and creative thinking, which will benefit them in whatever they choose to pursue after high school.

Professional Beliefs
Growth Mindset

I believe in the importance of embracing challenges and overcoming obstacles.
Each student has a unique perspective and set of experiences and therefore opportunities for growth look different for everyone. As an educator, I aim to support students in their own growth as both learners and individuals.

Relationships

I believe in the development of meaningful relationships with students, colleagues and the community. As a teacher, I recognize the importance of modeling integrity, honesty, and leadership. I believe that these qualities help me to develop caring and honest relationships with students, which are extremely important when teaching art. Creating art allows students to openly express their passions, ideas, and perspectives. I enjoy working as a team and learning from collaboration. I also value the perspective of others, even when their opinion differs from my own.

Wellness
Wellness is an on going theme I use in my teaching and work in high school. Developing wellness practices in high school helps students to maintain their health and wellness in the future. This includes mental, physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual wellness.

Cross curricular projects build relationships between varied subject areas and grade levels. The multiple perspectives and varied knowledge base result in high quality work and higher levels of achievement.
